The Office of the Associate Provost for Teaching and Technology (TNT) provides IT coordination between the units reporting directly to the Office of the Provost, collectively known as "Education & General" (E&G), and the Office of the CIO.
Therefore "E&G IT" serves as both a central point of communication and the official IT governance conduit for the colleges and academic support units defined as E&G IT units. As with the other non-core IT units (Administrative IT, HSC IT, and IFAS IT), formal reporting lines lie within specific administrative & academic units; therefore the E&G grouping is intended to encourage sharing of knowledge and expertise across those units, while respecting reporting lines.
Who are we?
E&G IT consists of the IT units within nine academic colleges and various administrative units, as listed on the E&G IT Units & Managers page.
How can we help?
The E&G IT Managers Advisory Group serves as an ongoing communication and coordination vehicle between the IT managers of E&G units.
Where appropriate and useful, the group will define best practices within the UF environment to help individual units adhere to university, state and federal policies.
In addition, E&G IT units should alert Kris Kirmse, Director for the Office of the Associate Provost - Information Technology, about ongoing issues and concerns of their unit, so that these items may be brought to the attention of UF governance committees and Core UF-IT as needed.
What is E&G IT?
E&G IT is a decentralized organization that supports the varying information and technology needs of teaching, research and extension activities across a wide range of academic areas, while acknowledging the budget realities within those areas.
The information technology activities within"E&G IT" encompass dedicated IT support units with full-time professionals specialized in particular technical areas including, but not limited to, online course production, workstation support, server administration, application programming, networking, information security, database management and third party/vendor coordination, as well as individual faculty members directly purchasing and maintaining their own computers and printers.
This variety of services has evolved over time as individual units (UF colleges, administrative offices, departments, centers, etc.) determine what IT services are essential for their areas of responsibilities. Since every unit has different needs, priorities and funding sources, the related IT support areas reflect the decisions and resources of these individual units.
